A lighter or lighter kimono, for what purpose?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

When buying a kimono, one of the characteristics often highlighted is its weight, or rather the density of the weave, expressed in grams per square meter (g\/m2) of fabric. While there’s no such thing as an ideal weight, here are a few tips to help you choose the right weight for your kimono.<\/p>\n

The higher the grammage of your kimono, the tighter the weave and the more resistant it will be. Depending on your level of practice, the number of training sessions you do and your category (heavier categories tend to put more strain on kimonos), we advise you to opt for a heavier kimono. While it’s perfect for training, it won’t suit those entering international competitions. In fact, the IJF does not accept kimonos weighing more than 750 g\/m2. A Superstar 750 – IJF<\/a> kimono, with its 750 g\/m2, would be preferable. Beginners or occasional practitioners will prefer kimonos below these values.<\/p>\n

Weight: a question of feel<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Beyond these aspects, the weight of the kimono is also a personal question. Some judokas appreciate a light, supple kimono, allowing greater range of movement, while others prefer the harder-to-maneuver “armor” aspect of a heavier kimono.
