This weekend, Tahiti hosts the first IJF competition on its territory. <\/p>\n\n

Tahiti Oceania Open 2022<\/h2>\n\n

The development of Polynesian judo has received a real boost in recent months. This weekend of September 3-4, Polynesia sees the arrival of the first IJF-certified competition, the Tahiti Oceania Open 2022 <\/a>. <\/p>\n\n

Thanks to the work of Polynesian Judo Federation<\/strong> President St\u00e9phane Gustin and his technical advisor Franck Bellard, the event was organized at the Boris L\u00e9ontieff complex in Arue<\/strong>. The Oceania Judo Union proposed this Continental Open a few years ago. But the health crisis we’ve been through has turned plans upside down. <\/p>\n\n

On the weekend of September 3 and 4<\/strong>, athletes from 10 Pacific nations will compete against each other. The objective? Attempt to earn 100 precious world ranking points, which will be awarded to the winner of each category. <\/p>\n

The major role of clubs in the development of Polynesian judo<\/h2>\n\n

The presence of this competition would never have been possible without quality clubs in the region. In recent years, a number of clubs have emerged, including Tefana judo<\/strong>, which has become a benchmark in the archipelago.<\/p>\n

Their coach is none other than Franck Bellard, formerly of Judo Pontault-Combault<\/a>. Former top-level judoka, 3rd in the 1998 world team championships<\/strong> and 2nd and 3rd in the French 1st division championships<\/strong>. It’s partly thanks to him that we have the honor of working with the Polynesian club. <\/p>\n
