One week after the 2022 World Judo Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, judokas from all over the world met in the United Arab Emirates for the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam. One of the last of 2022.
A surprise gold medal
After a week of competition rich in lessons for our Fighting Films athletes, our European champion Michael Korrel finished on the third step of the podium.
This time, other athletes put their judo skills to the test. This was particularly true of Swiss Nils Stump, who beat off all his formidable opponents to win the -73kg class. Thanks to a magnificent Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi, Nils Stump defeated Italy’s Giovanni Esposito.
A fitting end to a fine judo year after two first-place finishes at the Madrid and Oberwart Opens.
In addition to this magnificent gold medal, our Fighting Films athletes defended themselves admirably at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, with Fabienne Kocher finishing 5th in the -52kg class, and Milica Nikolic 7th in the -48kg class.
Our fighters were accompanied all weekend by our IJF judo kimonos . Ideal for competitions and experienced judokas, you too can get one and become the king of the tatami!
